Questions & Answers

Have a Question?

Ask a Question
  • Can I clean oil paint art brushes without staining?

    Hello,
I do at my home without problem, but I am VERY careful to NOT let the paint sit in the sink… I always clean my brushes under running water and rinse the sink and clean it with Bar Keepers Friend immediately after.

Also, to avoid paint build up in the drain, they should pre-rinse the brushes and remove any blobs of paint with papertowel or rag. Most likely they already do this, but just in case.
One IMPORTANT NOTE however: many oil painters also use turpentine, lighter fluid, or other abrasives to clean brushes and those sorts of things should NEVER be rinsed in the sink. So if they are using those materials I’d discourage them from using the sink to clean up those items.

    Thanks,

    Dawn
