Caring for a Sealed Finish

Thompson classes this as a Sealed finish: it is protected by a coating, so the color will not patina or change over time. A little care keeps the coating looking new.

• Everyday: clean with mild soap, water and a soft cloth, then rinse and dry straight away to prevent water spots and mineral marks.
• Optional: a carnauba wax (such as Flitz Wax) adds protection and preserves the sheen.
• Avoid: copper or metal polishes, Bar Keepers Friend, Wright's Copper Cream, regular household cleaners, steel wool and abrasive pads. They can damage the protective layer.

Before You Buy

• Handmade means unique. Each piece is made by hand, so expect small variations in size, texture and color from the photos.
• Made to order. Thompson makes this sink to order, which usually takes 12 to 22 weeks. Call us and we'll confirm the current lead time before you order.
• Mounting. This sink can be undermounted beneath a stone or solid-surface counter, dropped in from above, or set partway into the counter. We'll confirm cutout details with Thompson for you.
• Drain. Takes a standard 1.5" bathroom drain. Thompson's matching grid and pop-up drains are available in coordinating finishes.

Made by Hand in Santa Clara del Cobre

Thompson's metalsmiths trained in the tradition of Santa Clara del Cobre, a mountain town in Michoacán, Mexico, where copper has been worked by hand since the 1500s. The P'urhépecha people of the region were among the most advanced metalworkers of the pre-Hispanic world, and many of today's coppersmiths are their descendants.

The traditional process is slow: the metal is heated, hammered, cooled and heated again, over and over, until the form is right. Each small dimple is the mark of a single hammer strike, which is why no two Thompson pieces are ever exactly alike.

Common Questions

Will the finish change over time?

No. This is a sealed finish, so it will not patina. Gentle cleaning and drying after use keeps the coating looking as it did on day one.

Do I need a professional installer?

Thompson recommends that all of its sinks are installed by a licensed professional, following Thompson's installation guide (linked above). If your installer has questions about cutouts or support, we can get answers from Thompson for you.

Why might my sink look a little different from the photos?

Each piece is made by hand, so size, texture and color vary slightly from piece to piece and from the photos. Those small differences are the signature of handmade work, not a defect.
